For a high student who finds herself pregnant, K12.com provides her the anonymity to attend classes remotely to complete her education.

For general questions about K12.com: 866-968-7512.

The Process: The parent, guardian, or student (18 or older) would contact the student’s present school Enrollment Counselor about the need to transition from in-person classes at the school to a K12.com online enrollment.

1. Eligibility would be determined by whether the student:

–had been continuously enrolled in her present school,

–has up-to-date inoculations,

–has shown proof of residency,

–provided her birth certificate, as well as a recent report card.

2. The Enrollment Counselor at the student’s present school will speak with:

The parent, guardian, or student (18 or older) to assess the student’s ability to transition to virtual via either offline classes (independent study classes) or

“login live classes”.

Regarding minor-aged students, a Learning Coach (someone 18 years of age or older) would be required to make sure the student:

a. logs in on school days at the appointed time

b. is understanding and learning

c. is completing assigned work,

d. is keeping up class attendance.

HEALING – POST-ABORTION

PROJECT RACHEL – Post Abortion Healing – Diocese of Charleston

or

https://www.hopeafterabortion.org

Healing classes are held for women, men and families experiencing loss by abortion.

CONTACT INFO:

Those who have lost a child (or sibling) by abortion “can be helped to establish a supportive network around [them] sharing [the] sorrow with carefully selected friends and family members, and diocesan programs such as Project Rachel.

Counseling or psychotherapy is often accompanied by medication to treat anxiety, depression, or somatic symptoms.”[1]

If you have been chosen by a friend or family member who confides in you about their abortion story, Project Rachel recommends:

Project Rachel says before you talk, keep in mind: What does she or he need today?

someone to listen?a shoulder to cry on?a referral to a professional counselora priest or minister?or even crisis intervention?www.hopeafterabortion.org

Listen with your heart

Begin by listening to your friend. Let her pour out the whole story without interrupting her. You don’t have to understand every detail. It’s important that she lets go of some of the burden she’s been carrying and that she no longer feels alone. Your friend may tell you:

·       what happened at the clinic? ·       rage and anger—at the boyfriend, parents, the clinic personnel, God, herself ·       guilt, regret, depression, nightmares ·       using alcohol or drugs to try to forget, andeven suicidal thoughts·     unbearable grief ·     being alienated from her boyfriend, family and friends ·     feeling that she doesn’t deserve to beloved or forgiven

Assure her of your love and support – Much as you’d like to make all her suffering go away with the right words, her grief and loss won’t disappear after one conversation. Assure her of your friendship. Tell her you will be there for her and help her find healing.

Where help can be found – Ask your friend if she has ever heard about help for people struggling after abortion. There are safe places where trained people can help her overcome grief and loss and give her hope. There are counselors, priests and ministers prepared to help, as well as support groups and retreats. Offer her the name and phone number of the local Project Rachel Ministry. Give her this website address: www.hopeafterabortion.org.

Spiritual healing – Even a woman who doesn’t go to church or think of herself as religious can be afraid that God will never forgive her for having an abortion. She should know that God loves and forgives those who are sorrowful. He wants to comfort them and give them his peace. Think about inviting him/her to go to church with you or ask her/him to consider talking it over with a priest or minister trained in helping [those] who suffer from participation in abortion. Some Bible passages and prayers relating to God’s love and mercy can be found below (quoted from the Prayers section of the Project Rachel Ministry website).

Prayer for Mercy Eternal Father,
Source of all mercy and love,
out of love for us you sent your Son,
and willed that blood and water
flow from his side to cleanse us of sin
and restore lost innocence.Hear the cry of each woman who mourns
the loss of her child to abortion.
Forgive her sin, restore her to your grace,
and still the terror of her heart
with a peace beyond all understanding.
Through the intercession
of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of all tenderness and our Mother,
strengthen her faith in you.
Give her the consolation to believe
that her child is now living in the Lord.
We ask this through Christ our Lord,
who conquered sin and death,
and who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Trust in God’s Mercy Gracious Father,
I thank you for the mercy you have shown in forgiving my sins and for the peace that comes from being reconciled with you and with your Church.

O God, you are faithful, and you never abandon those who hope in you. I know that my redemption from sin and death has been purchased at the cost of your Son’s blood. In return for this priceless gift, I resolve today to renew my trust in your unfailing mercy.

In times of doubt, when painful memories of past sins threaten to destroy the peace you have given, let the power of your Holy Spirit cast out all self-condemnation and give me greater confidence in your word of pardon.

Teach me to encourage others so they, too, may seek your tender compassion and come to know your peace, which nothing can take away.

I pray this in the name of Jesus, your Son, in whom you have restored me to life. Amen.

Mission Statement: Addressing Homelessness at the Source

The roots of homelessness are complex and involve both personal and societal barriers to obtaining a residence. Tackling homelessness truly requires a united front of individuals, congregations, nonprofit organizations, foundations, and public initiatives.

United Ministries’ homeless services exist to:

1.) address immediate needs and complications that arise from being without shelter &

2.) provide personalized pathways toward finding permanent housing

Learn about our two homelessness programs:

How It Works:

PLACE OF HOPE DAY SHELTER: 600 Pendleton Street, Greenville, SC 29601

Mon-Fri 8am to 11am

·      Walk-ins may receive basic services such as access to a shower, restroom, laundry services, lockers, and telephone.

·      For interested participants, we offer an advanced level of intensive case management: assistance obtaining identification documents, securing treatment for substance abuse or mental health issues, securing long-term housing, obtaining legal services and more.

·      Should it be necessary, we will also work with partner agencies to ensure participants receive the best possible services for their individual needs. Case management is available by appointment.

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN)

·      allows families with children to stay together as they confront the daunting challenges of tackling homelessness.

The network consists of local congregations who share hospitality (in the form of emergency shelter, meals, and short-term housing) with homeless families that include children, and to help those families achieve self-sufficiency and self-fulfillment.

·      Our program is unique, because it comprises the only collection of emergency shelters in Greenville for single mothers with sons who are age 11 or older.

·      The IHN is also the only emergency shelter in Greenville for single fathers with children.

·      Most other local emergency shelters separate family members by gender, and only IHN will allow homeless fathers and mothers to remain with their children.

·      IHN also is the only place that can accommodate families with many children.

HOUSING

(THE) GREENVILLE HOUSING AUTHORITY – TGHA

Applicant FAQs | The Greenville Housing Authority | Greenville, SC https://tgha.net

Website: https://www.tgha.net/applicant-faqs – “Section 8” Type Housing

The Greenville Housing Authority has an essential mission to provide affordable housing and workforce housing assistance for veterans as well as low to moderate income families. TGHA is the catalyst for affordable housing and workforce housing in Greenville, South Carolina.

Since 1938, TGHA has provided housing assistance in the city of Greenville, South Carolina, utilizing traditional programs: Public Housing and HCV (Housing Choice Vouchers), previously Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, funded by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In recent years, TGHA has updated its housing portfolio with modern mixed-income developments and continues to search for ways to expand affordable housing throughout the City of Greenville and Greenville County.

TGHA is now a real estate development entity with a social mission of preserving and creating communities of opportunity. As our community continues to grow and change, TGHA continues to develop new strategies to proactively meet the challenges of Building Communities of Opportunity for the residents of Greenville, South Carolina.

Am I Eligible for HCV? Individuals earning or living with low incomes can afford to rent an apartment or single-family home at normal market rates through the Housing Choice Voucher Program.

The Housing Choice Voucher program provides rental assistance to about 3,900 households in Greenville County, SC. This highly popular program has a waiting list that we are only able to open every few years. Applicants are then selected from the waiting list using a random lottery system.

To meet the income guidelines, you must earn less than half (50%) of the typical income for a family of your size in the Greenville area. Use the chart below to find out.

To be eligible for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, you must:

1. Meet maximum income guidelines

2. Pass a criminal background check.

3. Have at least one family member who is a citizen or legal resident of the U.S.

This are the income limits effective April 1, 2021HUD requires that extremely low-income (ELI) families make up at least 75 percent of the families admitted to the HCV program during TGHA’s fiscal year. ELI families are those with annual incomes at or below the federal poverty level or 30 percent of the area median income, whichever number is higher. To ensure this requirement is met, a PHA may skip non-ELI families on the waiting list in order to select an ELI family.

TGHA will monitor progress in meeting the income targeting requirement throughout the fiscal year. Extremely low-income families will be selected ahead of other eligible families on an as-needed basis to ensure the income targeting requirement is met.

Once enrolled in the program, you may stay in your current home if it meets our quality standards, the rent is reasonable compared to similar apartments in the area and your current landlord is willing enter into a housing assistance payment with TGHA. You can also search for a new rental.

How to Apply

Applications not available currently.

Am I Eligible for PBV?

TGHA apartments and single-family homes are meant to house individuals and families living on limited incomes. To find out if you qualify for one of our units, follow the three steps below.

1. Look Up Your Income Level

Using the table below, find the row for your family size, and then find your annual household income in that row. Then look at the top of that column to find your percentage number. Your percentage number measures your income in comparison to the average family of your size in the Greenville area. You may want to write down your percentage number to remember it.

The limits listed above are for subsidized programs. There are slightly different limits for non-subsidized programs. If your income is close to the limits listed above, please speak directly with each property for their specific income limits.

TGHA administers other forms of rental assistance programs such as the Housing Choice Voucher Program (also known as Section 8).

Table

Description automatically generated2. Search for Housing

Income limits are listed in the property description for every apartment or single-family home listed on this website. If your percentage number is the same or lower than the income limit shown for that unit, then you are eligible to rent it.

3. Know Your History

Like other landlords, we need to make sure our applicants will be good tenants. This involves checking your:

Landlord References: We’ll need to see good references from the places you have lived for the past three years. If there is a good reason you can’t provide these, we may be able to use other types of references.

Credit History: We run a consumer credit check on every applicant. If you still owe money to a previous landlord, you might not be approved for residency.

Criminal History: We have specific guidelines at each of our properties regarding series crimes, especially drug-related activity or violence. We run a criminal record check on every applicant.

  • continue to go to work or school
  • have OB and other doctor appointments as needed
  • have help with newborns and other children
  • take turns watching the children
  • receive counseling and work with a social worker
  • pray together as a “family” and have Bible studies
  • have Masses available (regularly celebrated at the home)
  • take classes and training offered to learn life, job, and parenting skills
  • receive lots and lots of love

Process for Pregnant Women in Need of Housing:

·      Contact Kathy Schmugge.

·      Kathy will do an initial phone interview then send an application.

·      Mother needs to submit the application for review.

·      In-person interview.

·      Background check: Paperwork provided and accepted.

–If we are full, Kathy will do her best to find her a place in another maternity home.

–If everything is clear, and a room available, a decision of approval could be made for residence at St. Clare’s Home.

·      The pregnant mom may bring her other children, again depending on current occupancy.

·      The waiting period would depend on how quickly the paperwork and background check are completed.  If there is an emergency, we will work with the mom.

Restrictions for Residence at St. Clare’s Home:

Women under the age of 18, or who are currently addicted to drugs or alcohol, or if there is a record of serious violent crime, severe mental illness, cannot be helped at St. Clare’s because they do not have the additional staff required to handle these needs. Kathy would refer the mother to other places in the U.S. such as a Good Council Home.

For 21 years, United Housing Connections has served the Upstate community by working with community partners, like-minded companies, and other non-profits, to advocate on behalf of people experiencing homelessness. We connect a vulnerable group with the resources needed to start on a pathway to success. We meet those needs by providing holistic, individualized case management. Through this approach, those we serve become housed and independent.

At United Housing Connections, we understand that the homelessness issue is multi-faceted and complex. Our clients aren’t just numbers or statistics, they are people with their own unique stories. We work to break the cycle of homelessness throughout our Upstate community. We do this by providing temporary housing placement for people experiencing homelessness, transitional housing for unaccompanied youth, and permanent housing and care for the mentally and physically disabled who are experiencing homelessness. We also prevent low income and at-risk people from entering the cycle of homelessness by providing connections to support services.

Natural Family Planning provides the couple with the means to freely express their reproductive potential.

  • It will assist those couples who are of normal fertility to achieve pregnancy, while being fully reliable as a means of avoiding pregnancy.
  • It will be of assistance to those couples who have experienced infertility in their attempts to achieve pregnancy.

Fertility Appreciation is the foundation of Natural Family Planning. It is the ability of a couple to understand and respect their fertility. Many couples find that the love and respect each holds for the other grows as their understanding and appreciation of their fertility grow. They accept fertility as a normal and healthy process, a precious gift from God to be loved, respected, understood, and wisely used.

BIRTHRIGHT’S APPROACH:

·      Listening staff seek first to listen to try to find out what is going on in the woman’s life before they give the pregnancy test.

·      General questions asked about the woman’s life, situation, support system, etc. Many women are without support from the baby’s father so the approach is to ask first about support from family, friends, faith community, etc. and ask about father later.

·      Their goal is to have a general idea of what the woman is dealing with, how she feels about the pregnancy, what she would think if the test were positive.

After Initial Discussion:

–Pregnancy Test Given

–Discussion of Options – Based on the Mother & Child’s Specific Need and Situation

–Contributing Factors – What type of aid the mother can receive may be based on the woman’s living situation, qualification for Medicaid, specific local programs available; such as programs designed for low-income first-time moms, programs for young mothers (13-24), video parenting education program, etc.

The pregnancy test run at Birthright can be used to get them into the Prisma System for maternal support.

There are zero requirements needed for woman to receive services.

What is the difference between a sex trafficking victim and someone “in the life” or survival trafficking.

VICTIM OF SEX TRAFFICKING:

·      Someone who is a victim of sex trafficking is a person who is forced, lured under fraudulent conditions, or coerced into selling herself or himself for sex, or is legally a minor.

·      Minor victims do not have to prove force, fraud, or coerced tactics. A minor cannot consent to commercial sex so by definition that is sex trafficking.

VICTIM OF SURVIVAL TRAFFICKING:

·      Someone who is involved “in the life” may not currently have a trafficker. He or she may state that they chose to do what they are doing, but most likely when asked do not feel as if they have other choices.

·      They may be engaging “in the life” in order to have a roof over their head, pay rent, receive food, receive drugs, etc. This is called survival trafficking.
